Change Is In The Air

October was a very special month on campus.  Hispanic Heritage Month and LGBT History Month concluded with dozens of culturally-engaging activities having taken place across campus, and the Lest We Forget exhibit and Tree of Life remembrances sparked important campus dialogue on combating hate in our communities.

Last month, we also welcomed the Disability Resources and Services office (DRS) into the ODI family.  We are excited to work more closely with the DRS team and look forward to ensuring their valuable resources are engaged widely across campus. We are in the midst of Native American Heritage Month and our office is establishing a partnership with the Council of Three Rivers of American Indian Center to ensure we better recognize and engage our indigenous communities. We encourage anyone who is planning, or desires, to develop programming centered on Native communities to connect with us so we can support efforts accordingly.

Finally, we are thankful for the contributions of our veterans community to the University and the country, and we hope you were able to participate in one of the several events held during Veterans Week. We are deeply appreciative of the Office of Veteran Services, our Veterans Affinity Group, and all other campus partners who lead our veterans community engagement efforts.

GPHEDC 2019 Annual Professional Development Conference

The Greater Pittsburgh Higher Education Diversity Consortium (GPHEDC) presents its fourth annual Professional Development Conference on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Duquesne University - Power Center Ballroom.

The conference theme is "Survivor: D&I - the Politics and Policy of Identity." The conference is open to all who are interested in or are working in diversity spaces in Higher Education.

A higher education leader keynote will kick off the conference, followed by an array of workshops showcasing D&I research and practice, as well as a panel on Campus Disaster Communication. Additional details including confirmed sessions and topics will be distributed at a future date. Lunch is provided.

The cost is $40 for GPHEDC members, $50 for non-members and $25 for students.
